A Rising Star A member of the young, upwardly mobile set, Asbestos, Quebec's Jayson Denommée is making his second consecutive appearance at Sun Life Skate Canada International after winning a bronza medal at in last year's Future Stars category. And a future star he is! Jayson, the current Junior National Silver Medalist and winner of a bronze medal at last season's Orex Cup in Hungary, he has already established his contendor status on the national and international scene. His medals do the talking!

Even as a young nine-year-old skater, Josée Normand knew what she wanted to do later in life teach children just like herself. Today, she's the guiding force behind Sébastien Britten, the 1995 Canadian men's champion and a member of the 1994 Olympic team. Her pupils also include Nancy Lemieux, a fifth-place finisher among senior ladies at last year's Canadian Championships in Ottawa and up and comer Jayson Denommée, who took the silver in the junior men's category.
But Normand says a successful coach must "be able to teach every kind of kid, not only the successful athletes. You give them all the most that you can." Still, Normand, who's been at this for 15 years, admits there's nothing like seing Britten finaly achieve his Olympic dream.
"When you start somebody out at the bottom and they get to the Olympics... it's the greatest thing a coach can live," she says.
